Situations that come up
The cut of meat that disappoints
Say thank you for the feedback and invite the customer to contact you or drop in. Don’t launch into a lecture about cooking or ageing in public: the reader doesn’t see listening in that.
The wait on Saturday morning
The queue at the counter is a classic. Acknowledge that the moment is busy, without making it an excuse, and say whether you have calmer times to suggest.
The price judged high
Don’t compare yourself with supermarkets in your reply. Thank them for the remark and invite questions in the shop, where you can explain your choices.
The review that praises the advice
Reply with a detail: the cooking tip, the cutting, the welcome. Reviews about advice attract other customers looking for the same thing.
Three reply templates to adapt
Fill in the fields (optional)
An empty field stays in square brackets in the text: fill it in before publishing. Read it over and change a few words, a reply that looks written for this person beats a copy-paste.
Quality of the meat
The customer is disappointed with a cut they bought.
Hello [first name], thank you for your feedback. We are sorry your purchase did not satisfy you, in particular [problem]. We would like to talk it over with you: drop in to the shop or write to us at [contact]. The [business name] team.
Wait at the counter
The customer complains about the queue.
Hello [first name], thank you for writing. We understand that the wait, [problem], was not pleasant, especially at busy times. We are thinking about how to spread the service better. You can also write to us at [contact]. [business name].
Thank-you
Positive review.
Thank you [first name] for your message! Your words about [specific point] make the whole [business name] team happy. See you very soon in the shop.
Other cases (fake, unfair, no comment reviews): the twelve general templates.
Where to put your review QR code
- At the counter, near the till, on a small stand the customer sees when paying.
- On the paper bag or the receipt handed over with the order.
- On the sign announcing your holiday orders (Christmas, Easter), with the link to your listing.
The direct link, the QR code and an A4 poster with your name are made here: Google review link and QR code (free, no account). The same QR code for all your customers, with no sorting.
To check on your Google listing
- Your hours, with closing days and the hours on the eve of public holidays.
- What you offer: meat, poultry, charcuterie, ready meals, orders for the holidays.
- Photos of the display, the shop and a few cuts, taken in daylight.
To go through the rest: the 17-point listing check-up. A complete listing doesn't guarantee a better ranking, it mostly keeps you from losing a customer over wrong info.
To avoid
- Replying in a tone of reproach to a customer who cooked a cut badly.
- Promising a commercial gesture or a discount in the reply.
- Asking only loyal customers: Google forbids sorting.
Google's rules change: read its official help from time to time. More details: getting more Google reviews, honestly. These tips are practical, they don't replace legal advice.
