Google reviews for a barber: asking, replying, looking after your listing

At the barber’s, the customer leaves with a visible result: cut, fade, beard. Reviews talk about the finish, the wait and the atmosphere of the place. Here is how to reply without getting defensive.

Situations that come up

  • The cut or beard that doesn’t please

The customer had a photo in mind. Acknowledge the gap, avoid commenting on their head or their hair in public, and offer to redo the cut.

  • The wait without an appointment

Many barbershops work without booking. Apologise if the wait was long and explain, if it is true, how to plan a visit better.

  • The atmosphere of the place

Music, conversations, crowd atmosphere: feelings vary. Say thank you for the remark without justifying it with your style.

  • The enthusiastic review

Say thank you and mention a detail: the precision, the welcome, the advice. Avoid wording that promises a price on the next visit.

Three reply templates to adapt

Fill in the fields (optional)

An empty field stays in square brackets in the text: fill it in before publishing. Read it over and change a few words, a reply that looks written for this person beats a copy-paste.

  • Cut that doesn’t suit

The customer is not satisfied with their cut or beard.

Hello [first name], thank you for your feedback. We are sorry the result is not what you expected, in particular [problem]. Drop in and we will redo the cut with you. You can also write to us at [contact]. [business name].

  • Wait without an appointment

The customer waited a long time.

Hello [first name], thank you for taking the time to write. We understand that the wait, [problem], was long. We are looking at how to manage walk-ins better. To talk about it, you can contact us at [contact]. [business name].

  • Thank-you

    Positive review.

Thank you [first name] for your message! Knowing that [specific point] pleased you makes the whole [business name] team happy. See you very soon in the chair.

Other cases (fake, unfair, no comment reviews): the twelve general templates.

Where to put your review QR code

  • At the till, near the card terminal: the customer is standing, phone in hand.
  • On the exit mirror or near the door, on a small sticker.
  • On the loyalty card or the business card handed over when paying.

The direct link, the QR code and an A4 poster with your name are made here: Google review link and QR code (free, no account). The same QR code for all your customers, with no sorting.

To check on your Google listing

  • Your hours, with the appointment days and the walk-in days.
  • The services: cut, fade, beard, treatment, kids.
  • Photos of the shop, the chairs and your work, with the agreement of recognisable customers.

To go through the rest: the 17-point listing check-up. A complete listing doesn't guarantee a better ranking, it mostly keeps you from losing a customer over wrong info.

To avoid

  • Commenting on a customer’s head or hair in public.
  • Publishing photos of customers in a reply without their agreement.
  • Offering a cut or a discount in exchange for a review: Google forbids it.

Google's rules change: read its official help from time to time. More details: getting more Google reviews, honestly. These tips are practical, they don't replace legal advice.
