Why text messages work well
The customer has their phone in hand, and all it takes is a link that opens the review form directly. No searching for the listing, no button to find.
The condition: a short, personal message that arrives at the right moment, from someone the customer knows.
The right moment
Right after the service, the same day or the next: the memory is fresh. For a job, after the handover or the invoice. For a restaurant, in the evening. Avoid messages late at night or on Sundays.

“Hello [first name], thank you for visiting [business]. If you have a minute, your review on Google helps us improve: [link]”
One sentence of thanks, one request, one link. No need to say more.
Template: after a repair or a job
“Hello [first name], it’s [your first name] from [business]. Thank you for your trust with today’s job. If you agree, your feedback on Google helps other people find us: [link]”

“Hello [first name]! Thank you for coming to [business]. A short review on Google would help us a lot, it’s right here: [link]. Have a lovely day!”
Use WhatsApp only with customers who have already written to you or given you that number to talk with you.
The rules to follow
Send your request only to real customers, without buying a list of numbers. Follow the rules that apply to your messages (consent, the option to say no). If in doubt, ask in person or through a channel the customer has already used with you.
Never steer the answer (“five stars, thanks!”) and don’t sort your customers: Google forbids asking only the satisfied ones. Offer no gift or discount in exchange for a review.
